The AUD-M-ED Trust aims to provide grants to professionals working in the
field of hearing impairment in developing countries. We can fund courses and
course materials, assist with providing equipment, bring individuals to UK for
training and fund research into the causes of hearing impairment.
All applications for funding must be made on the standard application form
which can be obtained from Mrs Vivienne Rowson vivienne@rowsonb.freeserve.co.uk
Applications for grants are considered quarterly at trustee meetings.
Guidance for Applicants When making an application the
trustees will require the following information:- Why there
is a need for the training / equipment you have asked us to fund and how this
training / equipment will help to develop the service that is already provided
in your country. The qualifications and experience of the person
providing the training / using the equipment The arrangements you will be
able to make when the equipment needs repair. The availability of consumable
items such as batteries, probe tips and spare bulbs Examples of two
successful bids are given below.
1. An application was made to establish an audiology unit in the Siraha
District of Nepal. Audiological services were not available because there was
no-one trained to carry out audiometry and patients had to wait until the mobile
ear surgery team visited the district for their hearing to be tested. A Primary
Ear Care worker had already been trained in the early detection and treatment of
ear diseases and was supported by 8 Community Health Workers who had also
received training in the early detection of deafness. Funding was sought to set
up an Audiology unit and to enable one of the Primary Health Care Workers to be
trained in audiometry at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. Details
were given of the cost of constructing and equipping the unit and of the salary
and travelling expenses of the person to be trained. 2. An application was
made to purchase a paediatric free field audiometer (FFA) for a hospital in
Malawi. Four senior paediatric nurses had been trained to carry out pure tome
audiometry, performance and distraction testing but the FFA they were using was
very out of date. |
